Why does Dr. Parr say you only have four blocks to happiness and peace in life?

Everyone thinks they have thousands of different problems, but Psychologist Dr. Vincent Parr recently published research that indicates people are suffering from only 4 negative emotions, no more no less. 

Over the span of 50+ years of seeing patients, Dr. Parr observed thousands of examples of anger, thousands of different examples of anxiety, another for depression, and thousands for guilt. 

And rarely do patients have just one or two — people that seek therapy tend to have some chronic combination of all four emotions. He did, however, discuss something called our  “Personal Racket,” which he defines as the primary bad feeling that we become addicted to. 

In his words:

“What’s your favorite bad feeling? For most people, they have one dominant negative emotion like depression or anxiety, that they feel constantly and it leads them to the other 3 blocks to some degree. Guilt I consider to be the bottom of the 4 blocks, because it’s where you reject yourself, and there is no lower feeling than that.”

He goes on to explain that each one of the four major negative emotions are created by precise and predictable formulas of thinking that takes place within the mind. Dr. Parr’s claim is contrary to the widely held notion that depression and anxiety is merely a chemical imbalance in the brain, Dr. Parr cooly responds with, 

“Well, what causes the chemical imbalance? It’s thinking.” 

What Dr. Parr also discovered is how these emotions are created in the mind — by our thinking. The belief systems (repeated statements) made by patients exhibiting these emotions had a very specific and consistent pattern among everyone: 4 thought loops that anyone can get trapped in, that repeat over and over and over again in our minds create practically all emotional and psychological suffering. 

Dr. Parr is determined to take these groundbreaking new formulas to the world. Realizing that these formulas work for everyone the exact same way, and that their anger, anxiety, depression and guilt no longer needs to be treated on an individual basis – because anyone can learn the formulas and the 4 step disputing process – each patient now has the tools to manage their emotions independently. 

Dr. Parr has been practicing as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of Florida with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Postdoctoral fellowship from the Institute for Advanced Study in Rational Psychotherapy in New York City. He has over 45 years of experience in consulting, teaching and therapy.
